One of the things I can do in Game Maker is give my backgrounds various effects. I checked out everything I can do and decided to show some of the more interesting effects. And yes, I know that the title is making me sound like an eldrich abomination. Let’s get it started:
Boxes
As you can see, this one places random squares all over the screen. The default colors are an eye sore, especially in motion, but hey, you can probably make something nice if you play with the settings.
Colourise
The default colors on this one make it look like the Milkshake Galaxy changed into Ice Tea Galaxy. I might make a special version of the game for the lactose intolerant.
Edge Detect
This one looks like the galaxy underwent heat death. I can imagine a horror version of my game using this background.
Hue
If you tone down the colors, this would actually be a nice background for the game. Although, I don’t know any teal milkshake flavors.
Pixelate
I can reduce the number of pixels in the background. I’m guessing it takes more than that to become a pixel artists, though.
Underwater
Fun fact: before going to space, astronauts have to practice underwater. It’s the closest us regular people can get to floating.
That last one is moving, but you can’t see it when it’s just a picture. I can show off a few more effects in the form of a video if that’s what you want. Some things can’t be captured in one image.
