This week was Valentine’s Day, so a few fans made fanart of the most prominent couple in my webcomic: Freedom and Safety. The first one is made by Lila and Quinn. They edited one of my older comics. Here’s the original along with the edit:
The edit looks interesting; it looks like it’s from an old newspaper. I find it funny how Safety doesn’t have her elbow pads and knee pads anymore. Hell, she even has holes in her jeans. Is Freedom holding hands with an impostor?
I’m just messing around. The next piece of art is a love song written by Xena:
That was beautiful. Safety and Freedom sing about what they love about each other, which leads to them singing together. It really feels like a love song for a couple that’s been together for hundreds of years and faced all kinds of things together.
For those of you who don’t know, Freedom and Safety were inspired by a quote from Benjamin Franklin, “Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.” Basically, if give up your freedom for safety, you’re gonna lose both. They’re a package deal. If only Ben was alive to see what he inspired.
Then again, he’s from the 18th century and they’re a gay interracial couple, so maybe it’s better if he doesn’t see it.
