So What's the Deal with the Black Sleeves?

It’s been years since I’ve seen someone in real life wear a shirt that has sleeves of a different color. I wish I could find a name for that kind of shirt. I found “raglan shirt”, but that’s not really what I’m talking about. My point is, there’s a funny story behind the shirt I wear in the comic.

When I was a kid, one of the webcomics I often read was Cyanide & Happiness. I have no idea why, I was too young to even get most of the jokes. The way those guys drew their characters influenced my art style. The comic version of me used to look like this:

That didn’t take long to recreate. Although I doubt it used to be this symmetrical. As you might have guessed, I used Paint and only Paint to draw my comics back then. One day, I decided to try something new. I switched to drawing my comics on paper and then scanning them. I even decided to make my characters look more human. I’ve already shared one of my old comics, but for those who are new here, here’s an example:

Yes, I used to write Croatian with a pencil and type in English. It was a strange time. I figured the black sleeves were a cute reference to how I used to draw. Because I created Brad Joke back when I used to draw stick figures, he got a similar shirt. Dude’s older than this website.

Throughout the years, the design of my shirt went through two small changes: I added short green sleeves and a spilling paint bucket as a drawing on the shirt. Who knows, it might go through more changes in the future, but the base will definitely stay. Never forget where you started from.
