I sometimes get comments saying that I draw characters with the head facing sideways, but the body facing forwards. I figured, maybe it’s because I’m drawing the bodies too wide.
I’m a comic artist, so I need to make sure my characters are drawn consistently. I use a ruler to make sure the proportions remain the same. For most male characters, the typical width is 2.3 cm. For most female characters, it’s 2.1 cm. I don’t know if other artists do the same, but it’s what works for me.
For this experiment, I decided to draw them more narrow. I want your feedback. Which width makes the most sense for male and female characters? Should it stay the same or should I change it?
A few disclamers for the end. “Typical” doesn’t mean “obligatory”. Not everyone will be drawn the same. Also, I draw comics several weeks in advance, so if I do decide to change my artstyle, it’s gonna take a while for you to see it. I’m looking forward to reading what you think.
