Like I said in a reply before, I’m thinking of making a list of top 10 favorite and top 10 least favorite comics when I reach the 500th one. It’s gonna happen in a month or two. Doing the “Comment Highlights” series is an opportunity to go over my earlier comics, so let’s keep it going.
Comic 284: Dysfunctional Motherboard
In this comic, Brad Joke claims he’s incapable of feeling shame. One of the comments had this to say about it.
In the past, I’ve shut those comments down by claiming that it makes no sense to diagnose cartoon characters since they’re meant to be more over the top than real people.
In hindsight, I was being a spoilsport. Sorry about that. If you want to diagnose a cartoon charater, go ahead. Just don’t treat it as canon information and don’t demonize people with disorders.
Comic 289: King Midas Lives on
Anne Cap gets to ask a genie to grant her wishes. She asks for the Midas touch without affecting food and drinks. She doesn’t say anything about air, so she gets trapped in gold.
It’s been tried before. I’ve seen people come up with wishes that were so ridiculously specific, it’s impossible for a genie to twist them. That would explain why laws are often so wordy. Plenty of people want to look for loopholes.
This Pear or That Pear?
After creating the embodiment of hope, it only made sense to create the embodiment of despair. This is one of the questions I didn’t answer.
If I ever decide to create an embodiment of cynicism, I have two choices. I could go for the modern definition (the belief that people in general are cold and selfish) or I could go for the Ancient Greek school of thought (your life’s purpose is to gain happiness, you must free yourself from social constraints, etc.) I could also go for some combination of the two. There’s a lot of potential.
Comic 294: No Pain, Yes Gain
A lot of Tamashii comics are jokes about her laziness. Naturally, they prompt comments like this.
Listen, I pride myself of subvering stereotypes. I got an Asian slacker, a black cop and a white person who loves himself.
Comic 295: I Don’t Like Them, SAM I Am
Freedom put surface-to-air missiles on her roof and, obviously, the police had a problem with it. As one of the comments pointed out, it wouldn’t be just the police.
You got me there. There’s no way Safety would be okay with missiles on the roof.
Freedom installed them while Safety was away from home. Did I cover my ass? Or did I just create another plothole?
That’s all for today. Don’t worry, I’ll actually go over all my comics when I start making the list. It’s gonna be a lot of work for two Wednesday posts, but I should do something special to celebrate. I can’t wait!
