According to the archive, it’s been over six months since my last Comment Highlights. I started posting videos every other Wednesday, so I suppose that kind of thing is to be expected. Let’s talk about some interesting comments that I didn’t reply to. As usual, I’ll continue where I left off.
Comic 421: No Minds, no Masters
A few years ago, I created the embodiment of logic and used her in one comic. She didn’t become a mainstay. I couldn’t figure out how to make her stand out from other “voice of reason” characters. People do seem to like her, though. One of the fans asked me this:
Yes, she exists. Logic struggles to define her. Her best attempt is, “A chemical reaction that makes it easier to form social bonds.” Some things can’t be explained, they can only be felt.
AI Personifies Ideas
A few years ago, I made some posts where I played with AI generated images. I decided to stop because I was worried about stealing other people’s art. Still, it was kind of fun to experiment. One of my experiments was letting AI turns ideas into people. This is what one person thought about it:
I’m not the first artist that tried to personify despair. Most of them turn it into a monster that wants to destroy everything, but I went in a different direction. My Despair is a downer, but he’s harmless; he can even be loving and helpful sometimes. I’m not saying one is better than the other, it’s just interesting to see how the same idea can be executed in different ways.
Thinking about the Giant Hand
There is a famous thought experiment on 4chan: a giant hand zooms around the planet and kills a random person every day. How would human history change? I wrote down my thoughts about it. One of my readers did the same thing:
The SCP Foundation started with a single post on 4chan. I’m a little disappointed that the giant hand never lead to anything bigger. It’s such an interesting concept. Imagine all the stories that could’ve been told about the giant hand and the people who have to deal with it. This comment is just one of the many possibilities.
Comic 452: Santa’s Secret
I don’t usually share comment chains in these posts because I’m often a part of them. Here’s one that didn’t include me:
It always amuses me when someone roleplays in a comment section and the replies play along. This chain also remind of a question I had ever since I was a kid; are Santa Claus and Saint Nicholas the same person? If the former was inspired by the latter, can they coexist? Is this one of those “open to interpretation” sort of things? Maybe I’ll never get an answer.
The Barbie Movie Review
I don’t need to explain what this post is about. After reading my review, a fan had a request:
When I was younger, I saw the first three seasons, but I’m not in a rush to get back to it. Maybe it’s because of the current state of the world, but I’m not in the mood for sad, cynical shows. They’re not objectively bad, but they don’t appeal to me. You can show me how terrible the world is, but at least let me know that a better future is possible.
I’m not sure if this is a depressing or an uplifting ending. Either way, I’m happy you made it to the end. Keep sharing your thoughts with me!
