The Most Embarassing April Fools

A few weeks ago, I told you that I once drew myself holding my friend like a bride. Now I want to tell the whole story.

As some of you know, Pi Brain is based on a friend I had in college. For the sake of protecting his privacy, I’ll keep calling him Pi Brain. He was one of the most frequent commenters in the Facebook group where I posted my comics. When we finally met in person, it was as a loud college party. It inpired this comic:

The joke is that we look and sound angry, but we’re actually friendly with each other. I don’t know how well I conveyed that. One of the students commented, “This is like Titanic when Jack drew Rose ❤️❤️❤️❤️”. I didn’t know much about the movie, but I did know that it was a romantic and sexual moment.

A few weeks ago, it was April Fools. I decided to indulge my colleague by drawing this comic:

I even put it in the description that Pi Brain would be my boyfriend. He commented, “I feel violated☹️ No review today, too busy lying in a fetal position because of this” The student who had made the Titanic joke said, “This was a religious experience.” I don’t know what religion she was talking about.

I’m not the best at reading emotions, but I’m pretty sure Pi Brain was playing up his outrage for comedic effect. He never told me to take it down and we stayed friend after this. The comic makes it clear that Bright Side is just doing this for attention and Pi Brain is not on board, so that probably softened the blow.

That being said, just because he took it in stride, it doesn’t mean I was the good guy in this situation. I definitely should’ve asked him ahead of time if he was okay with it. I got lucky. I hope you enjoyed the story, but if you want to do something similar, make sure everyone involved is in on it.
