A Couple of Updates

I have several things to talk about today. Let’s start with my new project.

I finally got an idea for a video game. Here’s how it goes: the Botface company wanted to create their own advanced AI. In order to avoid the mistakes of every sci-fi movie, they designed it to love humans. Unfortunately, they overshot their goal; the company created a virus that replicates himself and infects as many devices as he can. He wants all of humanity to be his friends and he won’t take no for an answer.

When Wanda heard about this, she uploaded TX2 on the internet and instructed him to fight the virus and get him under control. He has a gun with six different settings, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. I know it’s not the most original premise, but I believe I can make a fun game out of it. Here’s a short video where I show you my progress. Just a heads up, I haven’t added any music or sounds yet.

I’ll make a longer video where I explain the game in more detail and post it on YouTube soon. Consider this a preview.

Another piece of news is that I may have gotten a part time job. This Monday, I went to a firm for a job interview. They explained what they wanted me to do: call Croatian firms that don’t have enough workers and send them workers from other countries. My salary will depend on how many foreign workers I indirectly employ. Later that day, I got a message that I was accepted. The next day, I called the boss and told him I had a few more recent job interviews. I wanted to wait a few days to see if some other firm would accept me. Nothing against him, I just wanted to keep my options open. Fortunately, he allowed it.

That’s not the only dilemma I’m dealing with, however. As you probably know, I’ve recently started a new series on YouTube. Maybe it’s new toy syndrome, maybe it’s the fact that I’ve been drawing comics for years, but recently, I found making videos and working on my game more enjoyable than making comics. The probability of doing a job, even a part time one, complicates things even further. How am I going to balance a job, a webcomic, YouTube and my game?

My proposal is that I post comics a bit less frequently. Fridays would no longer be just for comics; I might post a video instead. Instead of two comics every week, you’d get three comics every two weeks; 25% less. I could focus more on projects that I’m more passionate about and make fewer filler comics; the ones I draw just to keep up witht the schedule. I’d be trading quantity for quality.

On the other hand, there are some downsides to that idea. Judging by the comments, a lot of people come to this website primarily for the comics. That makes sense; it’s how I started out. Also, I haven’t been posting that frequently in the first place. There are many artists who post more than two comics every week. I admit, I’ve always been kind of selfish as an artist. I prioritize what I want to do over what the fans want me to do. Is that a good or a bad thing? Decide that for yourself.

You could argue that changing the schedule like this is another case of me being selfish. As far as fandoms go, you people are pretty chill. I feel like I can say anything and you won’t get mad. I don’t want to abuse your good will, so I’m asking for your permission. Can I change Fridays to “Comic or Video”? Don’t worry about me, just be honest and tell me what you want. I wouldn’t have gotten this far without you and I shouldn’t be neglectful.
